"For I am The Slive, Commissioner of Commissioners: Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair!"~ Michael Slive
If someone says something about you that is not true you would just say "Hey, that ain't true."
If something is said about two people either one can say "Hey, that ain't true."
Right now the answer to the question of just what is going on between Texas AnM and the SEC goes a little something like this:
"We at the Southeastern Conference/Texas AnM can neither confirm nor deny any current real or imaginary alleged allegations in regards to what may or may not be certain possibly perceived advances and or offers for what may or may not be extended and/or accepted membership into any said structure that could be viewed as something in the area of an athletic conference by anyone real or imaginary that may or may not be currently employed by our organization.".......... So.....AnM is in then, right? Right.
When there is smoke there is usually fire and this thang is smokin' like Joe Frazier. I think that AnM is already in by terms of an oral contract between Slive and Gene Stallings (who we automatically assume runs each and every facet of that University). The real question is who do we bring in for balance in the East. I believe that since AnM has at least a small amount of say in something for the first time ever; they will block Oklahoma, Oklahoma St.,and maybe Mizzou from getting that 14th bid. That means the SEC would have to look at the ACC.
Slive is looking for two things here: 1)
T.V. Markets
The Aggies come correct here by theoretically bringing in the 5th (Dallas-Ft. Worth) and 10th (Houston) biggest markets in the country. Chokelahomo and Okie State on the other hand......well not so much. Of the top markets in the U.S. Oklahoma City is 45th. I don't know which team dominates that but I am guessing Chokelahomo.
Virginia Tech, also in theory, would bring the 9th overall market in Washington, DC.
North Carolina is harder to give a solid number on. You see while there does exist a Raleigh-Durham Market, 27th overall, one has to ask who runs that. Duke, NC St., or is it a hodgepodge of those two as well as North Carolina. Our guess is that North Carolina not only runs the Charlotte Market (24th) but it also has a big say in the Raleigh-Durham (27th), Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem (46th), and the Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson Market (36th). The last one is most important because if North Carolina has a say in that market then it makes any Clampsun argument of bringing in TV revenue null and void. That market is split into 2 SC areas (Greenville and Sparkle City), 1 North Carolina (Ashville), and 1 Georgia (Anderson). The CBS affiliate is in South Carolina but the FOX (and future SEC Network) affiliate is out of North Carolina.
Of all the possible candidates here are the market(s) they either bring or could possibly touch:
TXAnM- Dallas-Ft.Worth (5th), Houston (10th)
Nerth Carliner- Charlotte (24th), Rale-Durh (27th), Grenvl-Sprtbrg-Ashvle-Andsrn (36th), Grenboro- Highpt-Winst Slm (46th)
V.T.- Wash DC (9th), Roank-Lynch (67th)
V.T.- Wash DC (9th), Roank-Lynch (67th)
Missourah- St.Louis (21st), Springfield (74th)
Chokelahoma- OkCity (45th)
Chokelahoma- OkCity (45th)
West "By God" Virginnie- Charlstn-Hungtn (65th)
So in a 14 team conference we would want AnM and then I'm not so sure we don't want the Tar Heels more than we want the Turkeys. However, in a 16 team world we would want AnM, N.C., V.T., and Missourah according to them dollar dollar bills y'all new TV markets.
RECRUITIN'
Only looking at the states the SEC could expand into here is how the SEC recruited those states this year. The number in parenthesis reflects the number of top recruits that State sent to non-SEC AQ schools:
Texas: 11 (43)
N. Carolina: 5 (6)
Virginia: 2 (6)
Missouri: 1 (1)
W.Virginia: 0 (0)
Oklahoma: 0 (2)
So by the numbers here is how the SEC would rank prospective members:
1. Texas AnM: Recruiting (1) TV Market (1)
2. North Carolina: Recruiting (2) TV Market (2)
3. Virginia Tech: Recruiting (3) TV Market (3)
4. Missouri: Recruiting (tie-4th) TV Market (4th)
Two for the West and Two for the East without stepping on any toes. As for the other teams being named.
The following teams will be blocked by a current SEC member:
Clampsun by South Carolina and Georgia (Georgia only out of spite and cause it is funny)
Lousiville by Kentucky
Florida State by Florida and Georgia
Miami by Florida
Georgia Tech by Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee
Chokelahomo by Texas AnM
Oklahoma St. by Texas AnM
Texas: 11 (43)
N. Carolina: 5 (6)
Virginia: 2 (6)
Missouri: 1 (1)
W.Virginia: 0 (0)
Oklahoma: 0 (2)

THE BBQ FACTOR
On a side note while I do not officially consider "Kansas City Style" to be real Q....we would have all of the recognized forms Q within the boarders of the SEC- Carolina, Memphis, Texas, and KC. MMMMmmmmmmmm BBQ is delicious.
