Your frontrunner for the Heisman?

After pretty much singlehandidly beating Navy last night, and putting the finishing touches on the Dawgs, both in front of a national audience on one of the four letter networks, could another SEC sophomore be heading for the Heisman? His competition right now is a pair of left coast QBs in the next #1 pick and that horse toothed bastard that carved us up in game 1. But if he can continue to make big run after big run, and be the 30+ carry a game horse we've seen so far in front of repeated national TV audiences the SEC and ESPN provide, he'll be hard to beat.

  1. Even Herschel took a play off every now & then & ran out of bounds. This cat is up the middle running over linebackers every play..And it ain't like he's got a great QB to keep the D honest..

  2. He is w/o a doubt the best running back in the SEC and most likely the nation. A ML goes, so go the Gamecocks. If ML stays healthy SC will be in the thick of the fight in the SEC East. I hope Isaiah Crowell will be that kind of back for UGA before too long.

  3. Isaiah Crowell will never be that type of back. Not a slight, he's just not a power 'tween the tackles sort of runner. I see Crowell as a more complete back (catches well, better top end speed) but Jesus Frankenstein reminds me of John Henry out-drilling the drilling machine.

  4. My only problem with Lattimore as a Heisman winner is that neither he nor Mark Ingram have the talent to lace up Herschel's cleats. I didn't like Tebow winning it as a sophomore either. If Herschel didn't win it as a sophomore (when he was better than as a freshman), nobody should win it as a sophomore.

  5. As someone not old enough to see anything more than clips, Earl Campbell? Does he have that power? From my time frame, and a lesser name than EC, maybe Stephen Davis.

And yes, Crowell will never be him, because he's a different style of runner. I'm thinking Hearst for a Crowell comp, which is a very good comp.

  6. Hershcel got robbed thomas, and no matter who you compare to him, they will come up way short. The best of all time standard is a pretty high spot to set the bar.

  7. Mr. S, it took college football's first 2,000 yard man to keep Herschel from winning it his sophomore season. His freshman season was his most explosive, and Yankee sportswriters said they would never vote for a freshman. His junior season was solid but not injury-filled (remember the broken thumb). His sophomore season was when Herschel was at his best by chewing up defense 5, 6, and 7 yards at the time. You also have to remember at the time, he was only the 2nd underclassman ever to win the award after Archie Griffin.

  8. I personally like that kid Dan Mullen or The Patterson kid, funny how no one wants to mention how great they are NOW. The preseason they were all the rage over here I wonder what happened. Maybe...just maybe the fact that Mullen is 1-2 has shown somebody (or somebodies) didn't know what they were talkin about. Or perhaps they just wanted to stir the natives, so they would read their blog. You know a shortcut perhaps, which is a good idea actually. Considering the fact, they are nearly not as good as some of the better and established blogs. I hear Ben Dukes is offering a football class for girls "Football 101" maybe he would let you...er...um...ga..guys in.

  9. Mr. Sanchez - let us not forget the kid playing QB in Waco - RG III. If the Bears pull a couple of upsets and win 8-9 games, he'll be in New York come December.----TXBaller
