Dawgs win!

Hoops Dawgs that is. Final score was 74-50 against Morehouse, and since we were unfortunately able to make it to Athens, we just have to go by the box score.

There were good signs and bad signs, but the team has time to work out kinks, with Wofford starting off the regular season next Friday (at 8, with the Lady Dogs playing prior, so fans in town for Auburn can catch a double-header the night before heading to Sanford). Bowling Green comes to town Sunday, followed by South Dakota St Wednesday, so we can work in to things slowly before facing serious competition in KC, Mo the week after next.

But back to the game. The defensive numbers are great, with the Morehouse caveat. Offensively, the FG% is troubling against that competition, although that is a good number of deep balls. John Florveus and Nemanja Djurisic started at the 4 and 5 ahead of sophomores Marcus Thornton and Donte' Williams, although that may have just been to get the newcomers some action, as Sherrard Brantley started over Kentavious Caldwell-Pope too.

Gerald Robinson had a great game, especially in assist to turnover ratio (6:1). The team had 16 assists to 16 turnovers, which is a problem and too many even in an exhibition opener. Djurisic had a solid game #s wise, and the main FG% problems were KCP and Thornton.

Good things and bad things, but the good news is we have 3 more games to work on things and win easy before Cal and then Mizzou or Notre Dame in two and a half weeks.

  1. Apparently you don't realize that Wofford has 5 Seniors returning on a team that made the NCAA tourney the past two seasons, losing to Wisconsin by 4 two years ago and to BYU by 8 last year. They will be a major test for our team.
