Great news on Grantham

Contract extension talks are in the works, so it seems we'll get our defensive mastermind back next year with a loaded unit. That can't hurt the decisions of Bacarri Rambo, Shawn Williams, Branden Smith, and Cornelius Washington as they ponder NFL, or another year under a genius which will, health permitting, improve their stock.

  2. There's been rumors floating around blogs and message boards that he will focus full time on football, so he may not even join the team as Jay Rome's already done. But there's been nothing official, nor reported in the AJC, ABH, Macon, Chattanooga, etc papers, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

As for seeing time, I'd really doubt it. If he is joining the team, he'd have been there less than a week, and that's nowhere near enough time to grasp the offense and pass Ware, Robinson, Vincent Williams, Brantley, or Caldwell-Pope for minutes in the backcourt.

  4. A quick look at the georgiadogs.com roster, and it shows Jay Rome, #33, but no Marshall. Maybe he hasn't been added yet, but they could have listed him with a # knowing he'd join the roster later so that'd lead me to believe he's probably not joining up. A shame, cause he's really a great hoops talent, but at his size, he probably has a better future as a NFL DB than an NBA (or Europe) SG, so it makes sense to focus on the money maker.

  5. Yeah, we're retaining the guy who finished LAST in the SEC in scoring defense, and red zone defense.

  7. Grantham is way overrated. His defense has folded everytime we have played a good team.I'm still waiting on him to deliver on all that crap he was talking when he got hired. You know "we are going to attack the QB" "find the weak link on the OL and exploit it" "we will having multiple blitz packages, sometime we will bring 4,5 sometimes 6 guys" "we want the other team to be glad the game is over and they don't have to see us again" Yeah right!Maybe against the sorry teams but against anybody good I think all that was just hot air.

  8. anon 4:57 -- I know you long for the Wille Martinez days, but only a complete idiot would think Grantham hasn't done a heck of a job with the defense.

  10. Grantham's D is last in the SEC in scoring, against ranked teams, and last in red zone defense (teams have scored td's over 90% in red zone)

  11. it comes from mike bobos terrible play calling in the second half of games and keeping the defense on the field the majority of the second half (SEC Championship game and Michigan State). Bobo plays not to lose instead of to win by stepping on teams throats. Games that we had in hand this year (NMSU) he let Murray throw all the touchdowns when the game was obviously over after we scored 14. Then he decides to keep the throttle down. He needs to be replaced or demoted to QB's coach. Who does he think he is fooling when he calls a play-action pass from the I when it's 3rd and 8 or longer. Give me a break.
