So who will these programs go with to replace their current HCs?
1. Bob Gregory - Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers - Boise State
2. Chris Strausser - Assistant Head Coach/O-line and Running Game - Boise State
3. Justin Wilcox - Defensive Coordinator - Washington
Boise State likes to hire from within and between Gregory and Strausser you can probably flip a coin. Wilcox coming back home could also be an option.
1. Mark Hudspeth - Head Coach - Louisiana Lafayette
2. Mike Leach - Head Coach - Washington State
3. Willie Taggart - Head Coach - South Florida
If Leach finishes strong this season he could get back into his old conference with another traditionally weak Texas program. When it is all said and done Hudspeth will most likely get the nod.
No dark horses, no lists, no jokes on this one. If Texas takes our head coach we have to show that we are relevant. We have to show that we are devoted to the football program. Greg McGarity was at Florida during the time that Strong was a defensive coordinator. McGarity will be familiar with Charlie's intensity, motivation, work ethic, and his recruiting ability. Strong's tenures at South Carolina and Florida as a defensive coordinator gives him very deep roots in the recruiting footprint of Georgia.
Strong is building a winner the right way in Louisville. No gimmick offenses like Petrino ran....just getting big, getting strong, getting fast, getting nasty, hard-nosed football. Programs and players take on the persona of their head coaches.....I guess the choir boy, Joe Cool, persona works for some people......but I would rather have a "I will take everything from you but your crap" persona on the side line.
In the course of the Richt tenure a common problem has been complacency and the acceptance of complacency from assistants and coordinators. Charlie Strong's story is one that inspires a man to exact revenge and if you are in the revenge business you can't allow for complacency. If you don't know the story of Charlie Strong here it is in a nutshell. If Charlie were white he would have gotten a HC gig in the SEC back in 05' or 06'. If Charlie were a black man with a black wife he would have gotten a job in the SEC back in 08' or 09'. Instead people like Ron Zook, Gene Chizik, Dan Mullen, and Robbie Caldwell got the open SEC jobs. Now I am not a swolle' up, football coaching machine who just so happens to be a black man married to a white chick.....but if I was I am guessing this would piss me off. I think I would be real motivated to beat anyone and everyone who got in my way in the SEC. If there is a head coach who wants to ruin every SEC team he plays then I want him at Georgia.
If we lose Richt then we have to be ready to get serious about football....not the next year or five years later but the very second Richt walks out the door! Louisville pay Strong $3.7 million a year and he has a $5 million buy out. Drop the $5 million and pay him $5.5 million a year! Raise the price on Hot Dogs and Cokes a $1 each and get this done!
Look at this......how do you not want this as the face of your program? Does he look like a guy that will accept an incompetent defensive coordinator and make excuses for him?
How about this guy right here? Does he look like someone who will just promote our assistant coach of no one really knows what he does here to the director of the strength and conditioning program?
Look at this cat right here! I don't even know who he is or what he does but he is on Strong's staff at Louisville. He looks like he does two thing every day: 1) eat somewhere good for lunch, and 2) Yell at 18 to 22 year old kids until they get it right! You know what scratch that...I do know who this is it is Clint Hurtt and he is the D-line coach, Assistant Head Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator at Louisville. Yeah, a HC named Strong and an assistant named Hurtt. When Clint Hurtt shows up at your door and demands that you come to Georgia and play football are you going to tell him no? You know how I know that Clint Hurtt knows what time it is? He played at the U in the 90's......case closed, son!
Charlie Strong isn't just hard....he surrounds himself by other coaches that are hard......that means they will recruit kids who are hard......we could go from the Boy Scout we love you program to the come here and be hard program.
What about this dude? This is Dave Borbely and he is the Louisville O-line coach and running game coordinator. Are you honestly going to look at this cat and tell me that there wasn't a night back in 1974 at a truck stop bar in West Memphis, Arkansas when a fight went terribly wrong and some Mexican feller may or may not have caught an ice pick in the eye ball only to bleed out 45 minutes later?
|One of these things is "real" hard and one is "pretend" hard. Can you guess which is which?|
